When a large Willow Tree needed taming, we were on hand to take care of it, giving our Tree Surgeons a chance to display their climbing skills!
Crown Lifting creates more clearance between the ground and the lower limbs
Crown Lifting creates more clearance between the ground and the lower limbs; its main uses are to:
- Clear sight lines for traffic.
- Improve views.
- Allow vehicular or pedestrian access under the tree.
- Keep the branches away from buildings.
- Increase light to the ground underneath.
Our skilled tree surgeons will remove the larger low limbs, whilst retaining some of the smaller branches, this method will speed up the healing process of the tree and reduce the risk of damage to the trunk due to sunburn. A return visit the following year to remove the remaining smaller branches will complete the process with the minimum potential for trunk damage and decay. Care will be taken to not remove too many lower limbs at a time however as the trunk may be damaged and could initiate decay. It could also result in the tree growing taller, faster than an uncut tree.
Crown lifting is best carried out in the late summer months when the tree is in full leaf and the limbs have dropped to their lowest level with the full weight of the foliage. The problem could then be at its worst and it is often easier to judge where to cut to create a new base to the tree’s crown. If large cuts need to be made on the main scaffold branches or the trunk, they then have time to start to heal before winter when the rate of healing is much slower. There is also less danger of bleeding at this time. Our trained and qualified staff will be happy to advise you on the best method to achieve your desired result. Logs and woodchip created through this process can either be retained for your own use or removed from site for recycling.
