Our latest pond rejuvenation project in Aboyne, Aberdeenshire brought a large garden pond back into use. Measuring 12 m × 8 m, the old pond had a leak and was clogged with weeds and unwanted vegetation. Our team completed the work in six days.

Before: a leaking, overgrown pond

Dense growth had taken over much of the pond, obscuring its edges and leaving little open water. Alongside the unwanted vegetation, a leak meant the pond needed more than a surface tidy-up. The brief was to rejuvenate the existing pond and restore it as a feature of this established Aboyne garden.

During: clearance, preparation and a new liner

We cleared the weeds and unwanted vegetation, using a mini excavator and tracked dumpers for the groundwork and movement of material. With the basin cleared, we prepared it for protective underlay and a new pond liner. The photographs show the underlay being rolled out, the liner fitted across the basin and the pond beginning to refill.

Natural stones were arranged around the perimeter to define the pond edge. The work progressed from the initial clearance through to refilling and finishing over six days.

After: open water and a defined stone edge

The finished photographs show a refilled pond with a clear outline, natural stone edging and room for the water to reflect the surrounding mature trees. The central boulder and garden planting remain part of the setting, while the cleared surroundings reveal the scale of the pond.
